Described by the label Innova as “more than just hellish hedonism,” Unearthly Delights largely represents LeBaron’s solo and chamber music from the past decade, performed by musicians and ensembles based in Los Angeles. The striking cover art by composer and photographer James R. Thomaston captures the surreal flora and fauna woven into “Julie’s Garden of Unearthly Delights,” for two bassoons and fixed audio. Writers such as Edgar Allen Poe, Juan Rulfo, and Gertrude Stein, along with the Oxford English Dictionary, artist Remedios Varo, and composer J.S. Bach were all catalysts for most of the works on this recording Innova Recordings. (2020)
